Notes

Once you know the different types of machine drawings for example 1st and 3rd angle projection, sectioning, assembly, detail drawings and how to construct an isometric drawings you are ready to learn the methods that are used to draw each one of them. It is also important for you to understand some commonly used abbreviations that you will see on many engineering machine drawings such as the ones that are shown in my little e-book.

There will be many occasions when you will see a drawing of a machine part for the very first time and you will have to visualise what it looks like physically, to be able to do this you need to read this drawing carefully and it may take a little time to figure it out. It is useful to look out for abbreviations, an orthographic symbol and/or machining symbols as well as the dimensions or text instructions that are sometimes written on the drawing of a machine part.

I recommend that you READ a few technical or engineering drawings to practice the art of understanding drawings and their specifications and always remember to consult the SANS 1011 code of practice if there is anything that you are not sure about.
